Rig Construction

Client:
Major Drilling Contractor

Description:
Additional Work Required on New-Build Semisubmersible After Shipyard Delivery.

After beginning construction of a deepwater semisubmersible drilling unit in Korea, our client obtained a drilling contract for the unit that requires additional scopes of work.  Recognising that the additional work would be best and more timely accomplished in a separate project after rig delivery, Èpeus was engaged to define, plan, and manage the execution of the substantial post-delivery upgrade project.

Èpeus continues to manage the project from our offices in Singapore, and we expect that the upgrade project will require engagement of the Èpeus team for a total of 12 months.

The value benefits to our client has been:

  • Not having to refocus their workforce from day to day functions to the additional work scope.

  • Peace of mind that the work is being managed and will be completed.

  • No additional management time from within their organisation.

  • No requirement to house additional staff within their offices.

  • Clear demarcation of responsibilities to complete the work.

In monetary terms, our client will save management costs on the order of an estimated US$250,000 over the 12-month project period by out-tasking to Èpeus versus attempting an in-house approach.

Rig Upgrade

Drilling Contractor

Description:
Upgrade, Repair, and Reactivation of a Drilling Tender Barge.

Our client had recently purchased an offshore drilling tender barge, which required upgrade, repair, and reactivation prior to delivery.  Under the purchase agreement, the previous owner was responsible for defining, planning, execution, and delivery of the upgrade, repair, and reactivation work, which was to be performed at Keppel Fels shipyard in Singapore. The previous owners did not have the capacity to meet the delivery criteria, however, and the project suffered as a consequence.

Èpeus was engaged to take the project forward to its completion. The Èpeus team executed the project over a 7-month period from April to October 2008.

The value benefit to the client was:

  • Rapid mobilisation of an experienced project management team.

  • Utilisation of systems and work processes which the client company did not have.
